Joan Marie, the gift
As I reflect on this Labor Day, I would like to think that all people are hard working and take pride in their jobs or careers but unfortunately that is the farthest from the truth. I have observed the lack of interest or knowledge in the service that individual's are representing and providing too often. Instead of trying to reach their highest potential, many individuals are plain lazy and unhappy. I have had service people come to our home and have found the same situation. The Corporate world also has many representatives who are insensitive to the needs of their clients yet I must also say that I have experienced many who are courteous, knowledgeable and go far beyond the call of duty. Why you might ask? Because they care! So what sets people apart and why are some very successful in what they do and others are not?
I believe the correct answer is found in the attitude that some individuals hold. They forget that they are part of the driving force of our economy and the way that most businesses are recognized and cherished is through their relationship with others. All businesses need good, loyal and valued workers! They need people who cultivate healthy relationships that resonate. I don't believe the answer is solely in the education process but rather in the belief that each day 'I will be the best that I can be'-the attitude! As a relationship expert, I can honestly say that attitude is vital for one's happiness and ultimate success.
Please do not misconstrue what I am trying to say! Yes, millions of people are hard working and dedicated but some are not. It is to those that I speak. The word worker today includes many sectors of the economy including technology, finance, services and marketing. If we want to celebrate our well deserved hard work, then we also must take a good look at the way we perceive our job or career and make sure we are doing our best to reach our highest potential.
PRACTICE re-evaluating your work ethic! If you are unhappy with the job or career you have chosen, possibly you need to raise your sights so that you will grow in your work and be the best that you can be on a daily basis. For each one of us, individually, to reach our highest potential, we need to be honest with ourselves, perform to our best capacity and if needed, become not only knowledgeable but also interested in the position we hold. Then truly this day holds a great deal of meaning to you. All aspects of our lives are wrapped around relationships and whether or not we value them?
A quote from Albert Einstein: "A hundred times every day, I remind myself that my inner and outer life depend on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving." Albert Einstein recognized the value of relationships of all. I believe that should hold true for each one of us. Let's each one of us reflect on this day-Labor Day and see how we can do better in all aspects of our lives by developing better relationships!
